Creo que una de las personas que ha puesto en el tapete (como coloquialmente se dice por estos lares) el tema del cual les facina hablar a algunos, con la misma sapiencia que lo hacen sobre los asuntos de la fundación Ford, ha sido Branden Robinson, quien en una reciente entrevista ha hablado sobre este asunto, como también lo ha hecho Ian Murdock, Anthony Towns y otras personas más.
Queria traducirlo pero no he tenido tiempo, es posible que lo haga luego, lo que queria decir es que Braden ha resumido mas o menos lo que ocurre, y es bastante cerca de mi posición al respecto (pues finalmente la saben), aquí solo una muestra.

If Debian were to vanish tomorrow, Canonical would be in a bit of a bind. They would have a great foundation to work from, but even with their relatively high staffing levels for a going Debian-based concern (I refer here to engineers and QA folks directly working on the Ubuntu distribution), but I have doubts that they could sustain it in the long term without Debian continuing to serve as this massive engine. Those who complain about the stagnation of Debian's stable release in contrast to Ubuntu's would do well to remember that Debian's *unstable* distribution is the wellspring of Ubuntu's stable one.
